Costs of Preparing Floors for an Epoxy Coating

We can only offer you a quote once we know the scope and demands of your project. Depending on the state of your existing floors, we may need to prepare your floor in stages.

If you have relatively stable and high-quality concrete flooring laid down, we may only need to grind areas before applying the epoxy coating. However, if your floors have significant damage and concrete spalling, then we may have to undertake larger scale repair works.

As a full-service concrete specialist, we can perform any service needed to prepare your floors for the epoxy layer. Better still, we can work outside your business hours to mitigate any disruption to your operations.

Prepare Your Floors to Protect Your Buildings

Improperly prepared concrete floors will drastically reduce the integrity of your epoxy floors. That degradation will inevitably spread throughout your home or business over time unless you invest in costly repairs.

Partner with Policrete right from the start, and you can trust us to get the job done correctly. Not only will our work guarantee the integrity of your floors — and your entire site — it’ll also save you on budget-crushing floor repair costs over the years.

The benefits of Policrete’s epoxy floor prep service

  • Build sturdy floors for foot and vehicle traffic
  • Save on ongoing maintenance and repair costs
  • Leading tools and techniques
  • Concrete testing service
  • We work around your business hours

How does moisture affect concrete?

Cured concrete is porous, so any moisture that seeps into it can get trapped within its pores. Once that happens, any number of problems can arise. Temperature fluctuations can cause the moisture to expand and crack or shatter the concrete. If the moisture reaches the iron rebar supports within the concrete, it can cause them to rust. These issues lead to concrete spalling and, if left unattended, to concrete cancer.

If moisture is trapped in concrete that has been sealed with epoxy, the degrading concrete will eventually crumble beneath the epoxy coating, making the entire floor unsafe.

Our epoxy floor preparation service includes a concrete moisture analysis. If we need to, we can dry your concrete to ensure that it remains totally stable once the epoxy is laid.

What is concrete spalling and concrete cancer?

Concrete spalling is a broad term for several types of concrete degradation. Concrete spalling can refer to cracking, crumbling, water leaks and rust damage. Concrete cancer is the spread of this damage across a significant section of concrete, for example, the spread of a crack at the corner of a concrete floor across the entire room.

Why is it necessary to grind concrete floors to prepare for epoxy?

Grinding is one of the best ways to prepare concrete for an epoxy coating. We use diamond-embedded grinders to remove the pitted, scratched and uneven top layer of the concrete substrate, leaving the floor smooth and level. Grinding also primes the concrete so the epoxy resin can easily bond.
